This south facing beach can provide good windsurfing and kitesurfing conditions in Easterly, through Northerly to NW winds. Strong currents from the large estuary can be a hazard though.
To find the beach follow the main Lllelli Burry Port road (A4884) and turn left towads Burry Port. At the level crosing turn right. Go past the inshore rescue boat station and then turn left onto a concrete road that runs parallel to the beach. Parking is available on a grass verge at the end of the beach road. Shops, toilets and accomodation are available in Burry Port.

Burry Port

As a newbie windsurfer, I found Burry Port an ideal location.

The harbour master was very friendly and offered some decent advice on the areas, and whilst at Burry Port, a couple of local WindSurfers pointed out some of the hazards, such as very large rocks near the slipway, and also that the tide can be quite fast at times.

Two hours either side of high tide gives plenty of water, and the slipway down to the water allows getting in and out without too much mud/sand. The slipway is not too slippery at all.

All the locals seem very friendly, and unlike the Mumbles, there are no boats moored nearby that can get in the way.

The Millenium Coastal path runs along the seafront at Burry Port, so other members of the family can enjoy a walk or a cycle along the seafront if they are not into Windsurfing.

£1.00 for up to 4 hours
£2 all day

Local shops are a 'good walk' away from the seafront (you will need to drive to them from the car park). There is a fish and chip shop, a pub and a CO-OP that should cater for most of your dietry needs.

As I say, I am new into windsurfing, and found the swell quite difficult at first, but there aren't many other users of the water so falling off didn't inconvenience anyone but myself.

You can get a good crowd of onlookers at the weekend, and jet skis do launch from here - all have seemed very responsible so far.
